Japanese Stitched Books

The Japanese Stab Binding technique uses exposed stitches around the book’s spine to bind single sheets of paper together. This makes it very suitable for binding pages of poems or series of prints and is a straightforward way to create an attractively bound book from computer printed pages.
In this afternoon workshop you will learn several different traditional stitching patterns to make a number of soft cover books:

  • Heavy white cartridge or rainbow lightweight papers are available for the pages –or bring your own pages to bind.
  • Create the covers from a gorgeous range of papers–many handmade, in a variety of colours, textures and patterns.
  • Lots of embroidery threads and beads for stitching and embellishment will be available to use.

As well as several completed books you will take away instructions and patterns so that you can make more Japanese stitched books at home. No experience (even of sewing!) is necessary.
