Chinese Pocket Books

These beautiful and ingenious booklets are made by the embroiderers of the Miao, Dong and Yi tribes of Southwest China and used to keep their needles, thread, braids and patterns in. Consisting of layers of folded compartments–they make wonderful gifts–containers for small photos, keepsakes and mementos.

On this afternoon workshop we will make a five compartment pocket book using materials chosen from a wide range of lovely handmade decorative papers, ribbons and beads.handmade book

You will learn to cut, fold and glue the basic components and so will easily be able to tackle larger versions of the pocket book. The project book ‘Folded Secrets’ by Ruth Smith will be available to purchase, which has full instructions including a fifteen compartment version.
